Photography and Performance

Theoretical-practical workshop in which we will work the relationship between the act and its photographic record as documentation that extends the original proposal artistic work. The theory will be practice through photographic exercises that will be presented later in a pooling and reflective experience.

We will focus on those artists who have worked or are working photo-performance giving more emphasis to the documentation as medium than to the recorded action. Approach to those concepts that are necessary to know and think to understand performance and the artistic process: time, space, self, the other , the body as a discursive tool and the link, among others. The importance of understanding the meaning of the elements of an image in order to interpret and make pictures with an intentional statement will be addressed. Reviewing the language of image: basic elements, photo framing, photo settings, composition. Ways to represent the message: description, symbolism, abstraction. Construction of the meaning of the images from the semantic elements that constitute it.

The photo sequence as structure to tell a story in a spacetime. Photo Settings: Blur/sharp, depth of field, black and white or color using and composition. Narrative unity: photography as a comic strip or film plane. Types of planes and camera angle. Narrative structures. Linear and circular story, side stories and possible combinations.
